The year was 1981 - my 10 year old daughter & I lived with my parents and youngest brother. During the Christmas holidays, I came home from work, said hello to my parents, when my father bellowed at me: "You had better teach your daughter the value of a dollar". Stunned by this sudden attack, I meekly asked "Why?" My daughter had wanted a pair of cowboy boots (they were all the rage that year) and I had quite blatantly refused to buy them for either Christmas or otherwise. As my brother & I really didn't get along, he, I am sure for spite, gave her $50 so she could buy a pair.

My parents took my daughter to buy these cowboy boots at the nearest mall. When they entered the Zellers (Canada's answer to Wal-Mart), there were a pair of boots for about $30.00. No, she didn't want those boots; she wanted a very specific pair of boots that cost the total $50.00. She and her grandfather apparently had a heated discussion on what pair to buy. She ended up buying the pair she wanted which my father thought was ridiculous. As far as he was concerned, the two pair of boots were similar and he saw no reason why she couldn't buy the cheaper pair and have $20.00 in her pocket. As far as she was concerned, she wanted the $50 pair and that was that.

She hasn't changed much since that time. There are times she will choose a more inexpensive version of an item, but the majority of times; she will choose exactly what she wants regardless of the cost. There are probably numerous articles on the psychology of a woman's purchasing decision, but I couldn't find any, so I shan't bore you with details, other than to say, in my opinion, there is simply no mystery of why women decides to buy any article of fashion especially a handbag. There are of course many variables that do enter that decision and here are just some that enter my decision to purchase:

1. My Mood, there are times when I decide that I want to go shopping, it is then I can never find what I want, or nothing appeals to me. It is when my goal is not shopping that I find that special piece of fashion that shouts, BUY ME NOW!

2. The available coins in the wallet - this is a dangerous variable because sometimes the desire to want that handbag is greater than the available budget to purchase. However, my desire not to extend myself to the point of bankruptcy is usually much stronger than the desire.

3. The colour and/or design - While most fashion designs are appealing, if it isn't the right colour, there would be no way in God's Green Earth would I purchase the item. For example, brown or orange are not shades in my colour palette. Even when I had my colours "done" in the 80's craze, they are not included (Thank god)!

4. Storage - for many years I was a pack rat, however my daughter is not. She has brought me to the light, so I do not purchase something if I have limited storage. I can only store so many handbags.

5. Sheer Laziness - mainly when it comes to handbags & shoes. I am a gal that really can't be bothered to change my handbag on a frequent basis (monthly changes seem far too frequent for me). As to shoes, well, I have problem feet which restrict the number of shoes that I can purchase as well as the cost.

It only takes nano seconds to have all the variables run through my head when deciding to purchase. However, never let it be said, that I do throw caution to the wind and say, YES, YES, YES I want it. So Men, all I can say, is that whatever motivation a woman has to buy that fashion item, you might as well grin and bear it, then go buy that tool or golf club that you want! Isn't it the same thing?

Before another year starts, fashion experts and designers always present us with what they think will be the new trends for the coming year. Some designs are made for a particular season while some are made to be fashionable throughout the year. Some even stay fashionable within the next couple of years. Here are some of the trends that are presented as the "in" thing this year.

The year 2010 is said to be outrageous in terms of clothing as extreme colors and prints are in fashion. Animal prints such as leopard dots are the main eye catchers. Metallic colors like gold and silver are also in fashion. To neutralize the flashy appearance of the prints, neutral colors such as beige and grey are also a definite hit for items such as coats and blazers. See-through top may also be sought out as the season becomes hotter.

Meanwhile, some old designs for shorts and pants are back. Items such as hot pants and jumpsuits are back in fashion. They are best paired with long socks or stockings up to or above the knee. For those who do not prefer to wear the shorts yet still want to show some skin, long skirts and dresses with high splits can keep you look sexy. The split can even be higher than shorts to reveal more skin yet hide more at the same time. Just like with the top, the pants can either have prints and patterns or just come in plain color. Aside from animal prints, abstract, floral and other strong prints brighten up the usually boring color of pants. Ruffles and feathers on skirts and shorts are also in fashion and are paired with neutral-colored tops as complement. Another old-school style that is back is torn and ripped jeans. Patched jeans are also one way to go if desired. The theme of rock-and-roll is something that never gets old.

As for the footwear, neutral tones are mostly worn to complement the catchy prints of the top or the pants. Flats, clogs, wedges and new Oxford shoes are in season.

Women's fashion accessories such as the earrings also sport the animal prints. For those who feel uncomfortable wearing large prints of leopard dots on their clothes, the earrings are perfect for you to stay in fashion. Talk about animalistic fashion for this year. Large hair accessories are also coming back in fashion. Rock-and-roll and urban accessories are also sought after. Bracelets, studs, rings and chain necklaces can be used to accessorize the torn pants and printed top. As also mentioned, tall socks and torn stockings can be worn with the hot pants and jumpsuit.

This year's fashion trend for women is feminine yet edgy, a mixture of extreme prints and plain, neutral colors. As the year progresses and seasons change, more fashion trends will surely emerge so stay updated. You should also remember that even if some items in your wardrobe are out of fashion, they should be kept for the future. Who knows when they might be back in fashion again?

Sri Lanka Set For Post Conflict Tourism Growth

Recent dramatic news of the war’s conclusion in Sri Lanka and the death of Prabhakaran, long-time leader of the LTTE, have brought almost immediate attention to the potential of Sri Lanka’s Jaffna Peninsula for tourism. According to the Sri Lanka Financial Times on May 31, 2009, “everyone wants a piece of the action and foreign contractors are flowing into the city, already housed in five star hotels.”

The paper continues, “Already plans are underway to attract 1.5 million tourists, with immediate targets set for 500,000.” The author asks at the conclusion of this piece, “is this the right kind of development? Are we going to cut trees, carve out huge construction sites, intrude into peaceful areas of the country’s coastline and tamper with nature?”

A holistic model for sustainable tourism development needs to be at the immediate fingertips of the leaders of Sri Lanka. They need to know that there are sound economic development models that can be applied and built into solid sustainable destination development approaches. Poverty alleviation, respect for local cultures, environmental management and conservation are all key tactics in this once in a life time opportunity to create a holistically designed place for tourism.

Do Sri Lanka’s leaders need to have a set of clear methodologies that they can immediately review in this situation? Certainly. Sustainable tourism must be framed out within the context of long term consequences and results. Without a consistent set of methodologies, which demonstrate how outcomes fit into a larger holistic model, again and again, decision makers will opt for the model of piece meal projects that produce lackluster results, or standard foreign investment without benefit of sustainable design processes.

It is hard not to notice that tourism is increasingly the most important source of foreign exchange for developing countries around the world, and increasingly so for countries emerging from conflict. The fact that few methodologies exist for replication to allow professionals and ministries to immediately determine how to proceed with development when opportunities arise needs to be fixed.

If Sri Lanka is becoming the target of massive interest in unsustainable development after a brutal civil war one has to ask, have the Ministers in charge been exposed to holistic models for sustainable development of tourism that could create much longer term value and genuine benefits for local people on the Jaffna?
Responsible and culturally sensitive product development, conservation and preservation of both ecosystems and culture, bioregional planning, community-based rural and urban development and benchmarking are all key parts of their mandate, which could be launched as part of reconstruction and implemented as a key tool to ensure appropriate redevelopment.

Does Sri Lanka need to catch hold of what has been achieved via the research of the pro-poor tourism movement and integrate it into this model? Without question! Research on building supply chains that rely on local goods has been so valuable it has been proven that by developing more local skills, with an eye on the supply chain, tourism can alleviate poverty at a much deeper level.

Does the geotouristic model of integrating place into the development of economy make sense? Indeed! How will social and environmental assets on the Jaffna be preserved as a unit unless there is more focus on the geographic continuity, historical past, and a vibrant cultural present that is evolving even as projections are being made about the number of tourists who may visit.
Should the accomplishments of ecotourism, and the impressive body of work relating to using tourism as a tool to support parks and conservation initiatives worldwide be employed? Of course, there must be rich biodiversity at stake in the north and east of Sri Lanka! Ecotourism has from day one accounted for the well-being of local people and continues to improve upon its ability to create rural enterprises associated with parks and protected areas.

Does anyone truly question that holistic models for sustainable tourism are not the appropriate tools for Sri Lanka? There is strong evidence and solid case examples to prove that sustainability is the right approach for creating a tourism economy that will have both stable roots and solid returns.

Megan Epler Wood, founder of The International Ecotourism Society, worked with tourism and conservation leadership in Sri Lanka from 2000-2004 on developing ecotourism and has since developed holistic economic development models for sustainable tourism in the post-conflict countries of Sierra Leone and El Salvador via her firm EplerWood International.

The weather is getting warmer! And as we need fewer layers, we’re going to have to use our heads to be creative with our outfits, especially as we move into the summer. But as of now, it still gets cold at night, so keep on layering!

Today’s style inspiration will show you a great way to layer without getting too hot.

Let’s get to it.

One of my favorite things to wear during the spring time is a denim jacket. It’s great for layering because it’s thick enough to keep you warm enough when it’s breezy out, and thin enough to keep you cool when the sun is beating.

It’s also a classic staple item that I think every guy should own. Personally, I love a dark wash denim jacket - like the one shown above - because it makes it a lot dressier than a lighter one. That way you can wear something pretty casual underneath and not look like a bum.

I really like this green plaid shirt here because it adds a fresh spring color and pattern to the outfit. I love the way the shirt is used to dress down this outfit, by unbuttoning it down to the fourth button, also revealing a low-cut white v-neck. It makes the outfit so much more laid back and it’s perfect for keeping you cooler during the hottest part of the day.

If you do this, make sure you tuck it the shirt as shown to maintain a dressed up look, otherwise you might end up looking like a slob. The tucked in shirt here reveals the gold buckle belt that matches the gold buttons on the jacket. A necessary detail because silver would not look good here. Try to match gold with gold, silver with silver, mixing the two rarely looks good.

I also have to mention how I love the way that he folded up his shirt cuffs to add that extra color to his sleeves. It’s a stylish touch that reveals everything was deliberately done.

Now guys really don’t know how to wear khaki pants, but one of the best ways to wear them is with a denim jacket. You get to keep the “jean” element which gives off that same laid-back vibe your favorite pair of jeans carry, but the khakis make you look a lot more sharp.

A pair of pointy dress shoes would go great with this outfit, like the ones I linked above. I say pointy because they look less like the shoes you wear to the office and more like a fashion piece. They also elongate your legs and make you look taller. Please stay away from box-toed shoes!

The dress shoes may make the outfit too dressy for some, but wearing a matching brown beanie keeps the balance between dressy and casual so it’s not overdone. Otherwise, you can always opt for a fresh pair of sneakers!

There are so many aspects that command your attention but each piece compliments the others so well that nothing can be labeled as the main piece.

The light gray wool herringbone blazer really stands out against the dark navy because of the color contrast, which makes you notice and appreciate the blazer. So you have to satisfy your loved one and you too. No need to go for big brand with expensive cloths, there are several ways you can stand among the crowd with more confidence. Select clothes that fit to you, like you and match accessories accordingly. If you are not fit with clothes , it never give you a look even though it is a big brand in the market.

Don't ignore the corncern about your clothes. My idea is to have some classic plain ties that can use with any shirts and suits, specially for formal occasions. and have few from latest designs as well. But dont spend much for latest designs, coz it will out date soon.

Shoes

It is better to Have classic black and brow pair of shoes always with you.

When we look at on informal clothes. no dought , there are more options for you.. Basic is, jeans, casual shirt or t-shirt woth a pair of trainers. Some will select smart casual clothes, There are many designs and many brands in the market. You have to match the design, colores and the budget fit to you.
